New Landscape
Series of paintings
2019 - 2024
The series is devoted to floods, the frequency of which is increasing every year. It relates to global climate change, mainly to the concentration of CO2 in the atmosphere. This series is linked not only to sea-level rise but also to cloud property change. To put simply, the volume of moisture that clouds can support is increasing. Consequently, drought periods are lengthening, and an amount of precipitation is also increasing, leading to more floods. For comparison, 30 years ago, there were 75 floods registered in 1991 and 57 in 1992 worldwide, whereas in 2021, there were already 222, and in 2022, there were 176. Unfortunately, this number will continue to grow further, along with the number and intensity of other extreme weather events. In essence, the series captures our current reality and highlights the evolving landscape, thus the title.
